Honey Cookies

Recently we traded with the neighboring farmer for some of his honey. In return we had given him a few packs of steaks from a cow we had butchered.

We love honey! We use it in tea, cooking, and when we have the sniffles we eat a spoonful before bed.

But we wanted to make cookies with honey so that’s why we set up the barter.

The honey cookie recipe is another recipe passed down in the family. We were making them to be added to our cookie plates for Christmas.

So today we baked honey cookies!

The ingredients included:

  • Sugar
  • Butter
  • Honey
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Baking Soda
  • Flour
  • Ginger

We melted the sugar, shortening and honey in a saucepan. While it cooled we mixed the eggs, vanilla, baking soda and ginger together.

We then gradually mixed the two mixtures that we had created. We were mixing and adding flour until the dough was just right.

In no time we were dropping the batter onto cookie sheets to pop them in the oven so we could bake them off.

They sure do smell yummy! I can’t wait for them to come out of the oven.

Are you excited about a cookie recipe you are making or made for Christmas time? Does your family have a favorite cookie to eat?

  1. I find small grade local honey to have a MUCH better taste than the mass produced stuff. We have a small farm locally that sells honey and eggs in small amounts from their door.
And we also support local producers. Awesome. B-)
